Farewell to Tracker Tilmouth.
I have known Tracker since 1980 and was very sorry not to be able to make his funeral in Darwin. The last time I saw him was in September 2013 when he came to the ‘Walk In My Shoes‘ town forum, co-hosted by CASSE, with his ‘brother’ Jonny Liddle, Manager of Ingkintja. I hadn’t seen him for many years and we warmly welcomed each other. He spoke up strongly at the forum about the need for economic support and independence in remote communities. I remember him from early days at the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress and he used to drop in to see Jonny. Even then he had charisma – a leader in the making – along with striking green eyes, the cheekiest humour and also a kindness despite the adversities he suffered being Aboriginal in a Whiteman’s world. He died too soon and his passing is a huge loss to many people and also to the fight for equality.
May Tracker’s spirit live on.
